Young is also the official crown designer to Miss California USA and Miss California Teen USA.
In 2009, Young was chosen to re-design the new Miss California USA Crown. The Crown incorporates many elements of state to symbolize the beauty of the California. Sparkling stars line the border of the crown to represent the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In addition, the curves of the crown bring out the natural beauty of strong glistening waves that flow back and forth, just like the beautiful California coastline. The wave design represents the different perspectives everybody has because of our diversity in California. The waves come together to form a heart because love unites and is at the center of it all.
In 2010, Young designed the Miss California Teen USA Crown which is dedicated to the Love is Louder campaign started by actress Brittany Snow, MTV and the Jed Foundation to provide emotional support to kids being harrasssed and bullied for being different or misunderstood.
The Miss California Teen USA Crown has a similar style and feel to the senior Miss California USA Crown. However, the Teen Crown incorporates a rising sun symbolizing the dawn of a brighter day and future. There are fancy yellow diamonds that represent radiant sun rays shining upon a curving California coastline. The design elements derived by the natural beauty of California incorporates glistening waves and sun rays which together form a heart outline to symbolize LOVE.
In 1998, Young graduated with a B.A. in Business - Marketing and as "Outstanding Student of the Year," which is the highest honor from the College of Business at California State University, Fullerton. In addition, he received both his graduate gemology and design degree from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). He has been an invited guest lecturer and a panel judge on gemology and design at both GIA and Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM).
